Diocese of Belleville

The Archives collects materials relating to the early history of the Catholic Church in Southern Illinois. Primary holdings consist of administrative records and historical materials relating to the Diocese and include much of the history and early missionary period prior to the creation of the Diocese; personnel records; letters of the six Bishops who served the Diocese 1887-; collection of books and dissertations authored by diocesan clergy; reports, minutes, correspondence, etc., of institutions, agencies, and organizations within the Diocese. Also included are the records of some 150 parishes dating from 1699. Total archival holdings approximately 600 lin.ft. No education records.
