School Sisters of Notre Dame, St. Louis Province
The bulk of the collection is made up of textual materials including correspondence, chronicles (1858- ), reports, inventories, directories (1857- ), obituaries (1880- ), registers (1898-), certificates, and congregational publications. Also included are photographs, slides, blueprints, drawings. The School Sisters of Notre Dame, a congregation of women religious of the Roman Catholic Church, was founded in 1833 and is organized into 21 provinces with sisters in more than 30 countries. Material in the St. Louis Province Archives focuses primarily on the life and ministry of sisters in Missouri, Illinois, southern Iowa, and California, as well as in Japan, Honduras and Sierra Leone, West Africa. Present day ministries include African Americans, Native Americans,Hispanics, and various immigrant groups in this country.
